In October, a photo appeared on social media looking like a frame from a CCTV camera, in which we can see i.a. Jennifer Lopez and Sean Combs, also known as P. Diddy. This suggests that the singer took part in orgies organised by the infamous rapper. Both visual verification and analysis using AI detection tools showed that this is a photomontage.
It’s not Jennifer Lopez
Due to the support that Jennifer Lopez gave to Kamala Harris, a photo depicting the singer almost naked alongside P. Diddy has re-surfaced online. Sean Combs, a.k.a. P. Diddy or Diddy, was arrested on 16 September of this year. He was charged with extortion, human trafficking, and forced prostitution, for which he faces life in prison. The number of Diddy’s alleged victims exceeds 150. Interestingly, the couple dated in the years 1999-2000, however, their photo circulating in social media is a photomontage.
Visual verification
The full-frame photo shows several artifacts indicating that it was processed using AI tools. The fingers of the left hand of the man behind Combs are in an unnatural position. Also, the arm of the model standing next to him is unnaturally bent.
AI detection tool
According to TrueMedia, a tool used for detecting the use of AI, there is significant evidence that the photo in question has been processed with the help of artificial intelligence. The analysis checked whether the image was generated by popular algorithms for image processing. The result is a 70% certainty that such algorithm has been used in this case. In addition to the photo with a person with the face of Jennifer Lopez, another version of the same photo with the model Skyler Mae can also be found online, which shows how easy it is to generate these types of images.
The photo has also been investigated by e.g. fact-checkers from Brazilian Aos Fatos and Greek factchecker.gr.
Summary
The photo of Jennifer Lopez and Sean Combs was created using an artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm. This is indicated by the numerous graphic artifacts visible on the bodies of people in the photo, as well as the result of the analysis of the AI detection tool.
