The Legendary Yacumama or video manipulation?

In recent days, a video showing a huge, writhing creature swimming through the water in the heart of the Amazon Rainforest has become very popular on social media. The description of the video suggests that it may be the legendary anaconda snake known as Yacumama. This is a powerful creature known from the mythology of the indigenous peoples of South America—a water serpent that protects the rainforest but also arouses fear among the locals. Stories related to its appearances have often been associated with mysterious disappearances of people or unexpected natural disasters such as floods. One of the accounts that particularly contributed to the spread of the video—a user known as @myhiddenvalue—has gained considerable reach, with over five thousand shares and a thousand comments. However, the vast majority of users have concluded that the video was faked.

Summary

Video shared by @myhiddenvalue is not proof of the existence of the mythical Yacumama serpent, but an example of a manipulation created with the use of artificial intelligence. In the era of digitally generated content, diligent criticism and a highly reserved approach to everything we see on the internet are necessary. Recipients’ security depends on the reliability of sources and awareness of easy access to disinformation tools.
